Dennis Tomaras is a tax specialist who brings 20 plus years tax planning experience to Madgwicks.

Dennis' areas of expertise include taxation issues associated with mergers and acquisitions, international tax planning (whether for Australian businesses heading offshore or foreign businesses structuring into Australia), handling disputes with Australian federal and state taxation authorities and general business structuring. As well as a depth of experience, Dennis brings a ‘commercial solution' approach to taxation issues and is usually involved in ensuring that the documentation, financing and taxation compliance is in line with the advice provided.

Dennis also has a depth of experience in the fields of IT / Technology, media and entertainment, TV and film production, property and mid-tier businesses.

Some of Dennis' recent experience includes the following:

  • Providing CGT advice to a large Australian public company;
  • On-going management and advice of a complex ATO audit of a number of public and privately owned businesses;
  • Providing a taxation management policy for a public company;
  • Providing advice for a privately owned Australian business heading into China and India;
  • Review of the availability of taxation losses for a corporate group;
  • Structuring advice for a private company setting up in New Zealand; and
  • Managing a complex payroll tax dispute to a successful conclusion.

During his professional career, Dennis has:

  • Been a tax partner of a ‘big 4' accounting firm;
  • Been a tax partner at two second tier / mid tier accounting firms;
  • Been a tax manager of a multi-national Australian listed company;
  • Been quoted in the Australian financial press on tax matters many times;
  • Been sought after by businesses in the entertainment and IT / Technology spaces;
  • Been a joint author of a book on ‘Doing Business in Australia';
  • Worked for three of the ‘big 4' accounting firms in their Corporate Tax divisions; and
  • An international tax specialist with ‘hands on' experience in both inbound and outbound structuring to and from Australia.

Due to his unique background, Dennis' clients consist of a mixture of large public companies and privately owned businesses of all shapes and sizes. This is due to Dennis' talent for forming strong, professional relationships with CEO's, CFO's, business owners and tax managers.

Dennis also enjoys making time to catch up with his clients to talk generally about their businesses and lives, as this leads to a better understanding of what drives the client.
