A partner in the commercial law group, Ed has a wealth of experience in advising clients in a diverse range of industries. With bachelor's degrees in Commerce and Law as well as a Masters in International Trade Law, Ed enjoys the dynamic nature of businesses and assisting his clients achieve commercial solutions to the issues they deal with on a day-to-day basis.

Since arriving in Australia from South Africa in 2002 Ed has advised clients on a range of areas including:

  • The negotiation of stakeholder agreements and business succession agreements;
  • Business and asset sale and purchase agreements;
  • Trade Practices compliance; and
  • Complex supplier, contractor and licence agreements.

Coupled with this, Ed has substantial experience advising clients on all aspects of Intellectual Property and Trade marks including:

  • The protection, securitisation and enforcement of trade marks, copyright and designs;
  • Licensing of Intellectual Property;
  • The audit and due diligence of intellectual property assets; and
  • Dispute resolution relating to intellectual property disagreements.

Ed's recent experience includes advising clients on:

  • The negotiation of purchase and subsequent acquisition of a transport business;
  • Entering into software service agreements with institutional clients;
  • Trade mark commercialisation and registration;
  • Providing advice to an exiting executive director on the sale of shares in a substantial private company; and
  • Negotiating and completing the sale of a civil contracting business in Queensland to a Tasmanian purchaser.

An active member of the Collins Club, a club for expat business people, Ed enjoys assisting individuals, and also international companies to establish themselves in Australia.
