Lorna has over 30 years experience in a diverse range of property matters. As partner in charge of Madgwicks' Property practice group, Lorna has worked extensively with the team for property trusts and developers in major transactions acquiring, disposing of and developing substantial commercial property assets across a number of states.

Lorna has particular expertise in aged care and retirement villages, including the acquisition, sale, management and development of facilities and a detailed knowledge of the relevant legislation.

Lorna's major achievements include:

  • Acting for a property trust from its inception to the present day in:
    • the acquisition of nearly fifty retirement village and aged care facilities and development sites across Vic, Qld, NSW and SA;
    • dealing with the property due diligence aspects of its listing on the ASX in 2007;
    • developing standard resident contracts;
    • acting and advising on the trust's day to day legal matters including finance and security negotiation and documentation; management leases and agreements; sale of management rights; construction contracts; a range of agreements with retirement village developers for additional facilities;
    • revenue, duty and GST advice including objections and appeals;
    • advising on retirement village and aged care legislation.
  • Acting for a large retail chain tenant in it's property matters and negotiation of leases across their 60 sites including Victoria and other states.

A partner at Madgwicks since 1999, Lorna is a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Property Law Specialist. Lorna also chairs the Law Institute's Specialisation Board Property Law Advisory Committee.

Lorna has written and presented numerous papers on property law issues.
