A group of 24 mid-career lawyers spent an afternoon with Madgwicks lawyers and staff as part of an educational program to further introduce the lawyers to the Australian legal fraternity. Madgwicks presented to the group of lawyers on the topic of Property Law in Australia for Foreign Buyers and Investors. The delegates were then provided with an opportunity to network with Madgwicks lawyers and staff.
“We were thrilled to be able to take part in Victoria University’s cross-border legal initiative. There is no better way of gaining a deeper understanding of legal practices beyond our shores and to forge valuable international relationships, than to spend one-on-one time with fellow lawyers from other countries,” said Peter Kennedy, Partner.
This annual educational program hosts a delegation of Chinese lawyers from a different province each year, with the objective of assisting the participants to develop an understanding of the Australian legal system and build trade relations with law firms within Australia. The program’s activities include legal placements, lectures/tutorials, and site visits to law firms.
In 2015, Madgwicks hosted three lawyers for a two-week rotational placement to expose them to the firm’s core legal service areas including litigation, corporate and commercial, and property, as well as attending court and mediation sessions, client meetings, and various internal meetings and training.
“This is second year in a row that we have taken part in this initiative, and whilst it is a great opportunity for the Chinese lawyers to develop networks and business opportunities, it is equally beneficial for our lawyers to forge solid relationships with our Chinese counterparts. We are honoured to be part of this program and look forward to being part of its growth further down the line,” added Peter Kennedy.
